The
China National Tourist Office (CNTO), London,
is one of the 15 overseas offices of the China
National Tourism Administration (CNTA) whose
headquarter is in Beijing.
CNTA is the governmental tourism organization
directly regulated by the State Council, whose
responsibility is to promote and administer
China's tourism industry. There are also provincial
and local tourism administrations accordingly.
CNTO London office covers not only the UK,
Ireland as well as the five Northern European
or Nordic countries namely: Finland, Sweden,
Denmark, Norway and Iceland.
Tourism in China is a booming industry. In
the year 2002, a total of 97.91 million people
visited China and China's international tourism
revenue was 20.4 billion U.S. dollars. It
has become one of the fastest growing sectors
for China's economy.
CNTO London, like the other overseas tourist
offices, is a non-profit government organization.
Its mission is to develop and promote all
aspects of tourism to China within not only
the UK but Ireland and Scandinavian countries.
It is responsible for educating both the general
public and the travel industry about China,
which is achieved through travel trade shows,
consumer shows, seminars, familiarization
trips and other ongoing promotions.
CNTO London assists travel agents and tour
operators in selling China to the defined
destinations by providing them with sales
tools, including travel brochures, videos,
displays, maps and general information to
the public.
