Chongqing: A Magical City
Chongqing is the only municipality in the central and western regions of China, as well as the largest and most populous municipality in China. With a history of more than 3,000 years, Chongqing is a famous historical and cultural city.
Chongqing is one of the most popular “Internet-famous cities” among young people in China. It is known as the “Mountain City,” the “River City,” the “Sleepless City”, the“City of Bridge”, the “City of Hot Spring”, and the “City of Design”. The Three Gorges is one of the most magnificent Grand Canyons in the world, and also one of the three major tourism cards that China firstly introduced to the world. The Three Gorges are the Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge and Xiling Gorge.
The Little Three Gorges in Wushan is one of the “must-see” attractions through the Three Gorges. It is referred “Wonders of China”, and “The greatest sight in the world”.

Chongqing has three World Natural Heritages. They are the WulongKarst, Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain and WushanWuliPo. In Wulong, the unique sky holes, crevasses, canyons and mountains have evolved into masterpieces of the earth’s geological evolution in the past 2.6 million years.
In Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain, summer sunset, leaves layers of cliffs dyed in egyptian yellow, like a golden Buddha emitting thousands of rays; it is known as the “Eastern Alps” and the “world plant gene bank”. Wushan Wulipo, a national-level nature reserve in Chongqing, serves as a haven for diverse wildlife and plants, earning the title of “Chongqing’s Last Shangri-La.”
Dazu Rock Carvings is the only world cultural heritage in Chongqing. It was built in Tang and Song Dynasty more than a thousand years ago. It is one of the eight largest grottoes in the world, representing the highest level of grottoes art in the world from the 9th to 13th century AD.these carvings are renowned far and wide for their exceptional artistic quality and diverse themes.
Wuling Scenery is another famous tourism card of Chongqing. Wuling Mountain is located in the thousand-mile Wu River, with a collection of natural scenery and ethnic customs. Start with “Peach Blossom Spring”written by Tao Yuanming, a great Chinese poet in Jin Dynasty, it is a idyllic paradise that everyone dreams to live.
There is also Qianjiang Zhuoshui ancient town, PengshuiAyi River scenic spot full of ethnic charm, ChiyouJiuli City, the largest traditional Miao people architectural complex in China, and Youyang Gongtan ancient Town located on the Wujiang River, where Tujia and Miao people live together, the quiet and simple living atmosphere makes people lingering and intoxicating.
The unique charm of Chongqing also lies in its convenient transportation and open policies. As of August 2025, there are 33 international (regional) routes in operation in Chongqing, with 177 flights per week. For the time being, Chongqing has carried out a 240-hour visa-free transit policy for tourists from 55 countries and regions.
