To support the development of Beijing as a center for international exchanges, optimise travel services for foreign nationals, and enhance the quality of international communication services, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, the Beijing Municipal Administration Bureau of Government Services and Data Management, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission have jointly compiled the Beijing English Map (2025 Edition).
Updated with data current to the end of 2025, this new edition offers more diverse application scenarios, richer information, and more prominent historical and cultural features compared to the 2024 version.
More Diverse Application Scenarios
Expanding from the 6 major categories and 11 sub-categories found in the 2024 edition, the map now includes 9 major categories and 19 sub-categories of thematic data. It covers a wide array of content, including:
-
Historical culture, currency exchange, and tax-free shopping.
-
Administrative procedures (ID and document processing).
-
Practical services such as SIM card registration, transport card applications, and self-driving services.
-
Tourist attractions, venues, commercial hubs, and dining.
These updates cater to the diverse needs of foreign residents and visitors, spanning documentation, travel, leisure, and daily consumption.
Enriched Practical Information
The thematic data has been further enriched to include detailed procedural guides for tax-free shopping, contact details for driving license exchanges and car rental service points, hotel star ratings, and opening hours for parks and scenic spots. These enhancements ensure that foreign nationals in Beijing can more easily perceive, access, and experience the city’s services.

Prominent Historical and Cultural Features
The map highlights Beijing’s World Cultural Heritage sites, major historical landmarks, traditional streets and alleys (hutongs), and “Time-honored Brands.” By presenting a multi-dimensional, inclusive Beijing where ancient and modern elements coexist, the map serves as a powerful medium for promoting Beijing’s history and culture and sharing the city’s story in the new era.

Key Features Include:
-
Historical Culture: The map labels 1,111 streets and hutongs from the protected traditional place names list. Users can query historical eras and the origins of these names.
-
Currency Exchange: Features 89 self-service currency exchange machines, primarily located in the six central urban districts and the two international airports. These machines support exchange services for over ten major currencies, including US Dollars, British Pounds, Japanese Yen, Hong Kong Dollars, Euros, Australian Dollars, and Canadian Dollars, meeting the cash payment needs of foreign visitors.
-
Departure Tax Refunds: Includes 23 large-scale “Buy and Refund” pilot stores, mainly concentrated in the six central urban districts and the two international airports. The map provides precise locations, contact numbers, and processing procedures, making it convenient for foreign visitors to enjoy on-site tax refund services.
