A Journey Through Flavor: “Taste of China” Festival Brings Culinary Heritage and Tourism to Manchester
The “Taste of China” British Chinese Food Festival recently concluded in Manchester, serving a vibrant blend of culinary artistry, cultural immersion, and tourism promotion.
Hosted by the British Chinese Catering Cultural Association, the event received key support from the China National Tourists Office (CNTO) London and the Chinese Consulate-General in Manchester. The festival offered British audiences a close-up look at the depth of China’s rich traditions alongside the dynamic new landscape of Chinese travel and culture.

The event brought together over 150 distinguished guests from various sectors across China and the UK, including Shaukat, the Lord Mayor of Manchester; Tang Rui, the Chinese Consul General in Manchester; and Zhang Li, Director of CNTO London.

As a flagship initiative developed by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, “Taste of China” has spent several years using the universal language of food to share the country’s stories, foster cross-cultural dialogue, and spark tourism collaboration.
Throughout the festival, British locals and the British-Chinese community gathered to experience a curated sequence of exhibitions, tastings, and travel showcases. Guests discovered that every bite offered more than just flavor—it served as an invitation to explore China’s diverse regional customs, long history, and increasingly accessible, picturesque landscapes.

A major highlight of this year’s event was the 2nd Chinese Culinary Competition. Chefs from both China and the UK took to the same kitchens to showcase their mastery, exchange innovative techniques, and highlight the evolution of Chinese cuisine.
Elevating the experience beyond a traditional food display, this year’s festival seamlessly connected the dining table to China’s landscapes, history, and folklore. This unique approach allowed British diners to enjoy exquisite meals while gaining a genuine understanding of China’s culture, people, and contemporary life.

During the festival, guests from both nations engaged in meaningful discussions regarding future catering and tourism partnerships.
The organizers emphasized that people-to-people exchanges remain the vital bond connecting UK-China relations. Moving forward, the “Taste of China” brand will continue to deepen cultural and tourism collaboration by launching high-quality, distinctive, and accessible events. These initiatives aim to invite British friends to travel to China and experience its culture firsthand, fostering greater mutual understanding and closer ties between the people of both nations.
